brennan+company was commissioned by the Sykesville Historic District Commission to update their Sykesville Historic District Design Guidelines. Building on the success of our previous graphic design update of the Ellicott City Historic District Guidelines, we rose up to the challenge. We engaged with the Sykesville Historic District Commission as well as the Maryland Historical Trust in restructuring and redefining their HDC Guidelines, related graphics and area boundary map. New substitute materials and sustainability chapters were incorporated to address the new technologies and how they relate within the context of the historic fabric for the district. These design guidelines build on and expand upon existing guidelines for Sykesville completed in 1995 and 2005, respectively.
